“Physical fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity “ - John F Kennedy
At Ghost Hill the intent of our PE curriculum is to provide pupils with high quality PE and sports provision which is accessible to all. We aim to build a PE curriculum which results in all knowing and understanding more about physical activity and how to lead a healthy lifestyle. We aim to enable pupils to develop competence and confidence to excel in a variety of activities. We will provide opportunities to compete in sport and other activities to understand the importance of fairness and respect. |
PE lessons are taught following a scheme of work by Get Set 4 PE. The scheme follows the aims of the National Curriculum, to ensure that pupils are physically active for sustained periods of time, are given opportunities to develop their fundamental skills and can excel in a broad range of activities. The scheme was chosen as each lesson plan has progressive activities that are designed to inspire and engage our pupils. From Reception to Year 2 lessons build on prior learning to extend and develop a range of skills.
Through our PE lessons teachers will look at the whole child, developing personal, social and creative outcomes for the children as well as their physical development.
The school is also part of the West Norwich and Dereham School Sports Partnership to give the children access to a broader range of sports and activities that we are unable to provide at Ghost Hill. This includes competitive events, sports festivals and specialist training for staff to improve the teaching of PE. All children will attend at least one sporting event through the Sports Partnership every year. This is funded through the school's Sports Premium Funding.
