Keep up to date with all the latest news happening in school at the moment.
A lovely morning with a group of Year 1 children at the UEA Sports Park. We were very lucky for the Schools Sports Partnership to arrange the Norfolk Cricket Board to teach us a few cricket skills and techniques. Helping them were a group of girls from the cricket team at Neatherhead High School in Dereham. Ghost Hill children really impressed them with a few budding cricketers spotted!
Freddie “I want to come back again next week”
Cassius “I knocked the ball off , I just aimed it”
Sapphire “this is really fun”
The children loved speed stacking and were very competitive! The Sports Leaders from Hellesdon High School helped explain each station and gave them lots of encouragement. We were lucky enough to have Di Baker from Speed Stacks UK bring her equipment and help organise the activities. Bulldozers and builders was a favourite game, builders built the cups into a stack of three and bulldozers had to take them down. It was lovely to see other schools at the event and some familiar faces from Taverham Junior School.
Arlo “I have done this before and I’m quite good”.
Xander “I did it in 8 seconds!”
Logan “we are the winners we got all the colours right”.
Erin “this is my favourite one, I like moving around the table”.
Children from Year 2 attended a Multi Skills Festival at Easton Tennis Centre. Sports Leaders from Reepham High School led the sessions along with the Schools Sports Partnership. In our school groups we rotated around different activities that used all the skills we have been learning in PE. It was good to mix with children from other schools.
“I’ve done this before, we do this in PE” Elliot
“this is so much fun!” Stanley
“do we get to do all of this!” Elijah
Elijah won the sticker for passion.
The children were lucky to attend the Rugby Festival at Crusaders Rugby Club through the School's Sports Partnership.
Here's what the children thought:
“I never imagined it would be this much fun” Luke
"I liked the mouse and monster game it helped you get more sporty” Ava
"I like everything, I liked playing all the games” Milo
“I ran so fast but I still got tagged” Esmee
Thank you to everyone who attended our cycling event. The children really enjoyed it and were able to thoroughly test their skills!
A big thank you to Mrs Everett and Mrs Tubb for organising and setting up the event - even in the wind!
Please find details of our school opening evening at Ghost Hill Infant School and Nursery on Monday 10th October 2022 between 5.30pm - 6.30pm.
Today some of the children from Ghost Hill attended Active Kids sessions. The sessions were organised by the Schools Sports Partnership, SSP, but led by some of the high schools Sports Leaders. There are a few comments below from the children.
“When we did the garden game liked it because it was so funny, all the cones went in at one time” William
The children played against Nightingale School to see how may items they could throw into each other’s garden.
“I liked the ball and net because I like doing that at home” Evie
“I liked throwing things at the big ball” Arlo
We are redeveloping our reading scheme at Ghost Hill Infant and Nursery School. We really appreciate your patience while we get this in place. This will make sure that your child is reading books that they know all of the sounds within to help them become a more fluent reader and not have an over reliance on sounding out.
Children will begin to bring home books over the coming weeks. Until then please encourage a love of reading at home by:
- Reading often to your child (we will provide school library books)
- Let your child see you reading
- Use puppets and characters to perform stories
- Encourage your child to answer questions about the stories that have been read to them

A HUGE thank you to all the staff who have been working really hard to get the books done as soon as possible.
Mrs Howley visited Sandringham on Sunday and was amazed by all of the flowers and tributes she saw for our late Queen Elizabeth II. The children have been revisiting their work from June on the Queen and her 70 year reign. As part of this, every child at Ghost Hill has painted a pebble to commemorate this historical event. Mrs Howley laid some of these stones at Sandringham to show our respect.
Please do come to school this week to see our work on Queen Elizabeth, including our pebbles. Classes have an allocated slot. We look forward to seeing you there.
Yesterday evening we all received the sad news of the passing of Her Majesty the Queen. Today and over the National period of mourning we will be commemorating Queen Elizabeth II. She was the leader of our country and a positive female leader in our community. We will be sending out further details of arrangements for commemorations today. These will begin next week.
We will hold a whole school assembly at 9.10am to mark this historical event. There will also be a minute of silent reflection at the end of the assembly.
